Best thing About this Track: DRUMS! They are so original and fresh (those snaps, though!), and just the perfect pair for this piano. They also really set the tone of the song and give the emotional sense of hope and moving forward.
One thing I wish was different: I love the subtle little harmonies thrown in, but I wish there were more. That’s a personal preference thing, because I’m obsessed with harmonies.

Do you know who make the best friends EVER? The coolest duo? Piano and drums. (I got you, didn’t I? Ian and Chad are pretty great too.) This track feels like a beautiful Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup with the piano as the chocolate and drums as the peanut butter. It’s the perfect marriage. Okay, fine; if you’re not a Reese’s fan, then the piano can be a strawberry and the drums can be the chocolate. If you don’t like chocolate-covered strawberries, then I can’t help you because we are just not going to see eye to eye.

Piano is definitely the foundation of the track musically, but a plain strawberry is just delicious. These drums take something great and turns it AMAZING! Drums. They’re killer in this song. And apparently, I’m really hungry and/or craving chocolate.

Normally I really appreciate super complex tracks with lots of moving parts, but this feels perfectly complete without being contrived or overdone. There are some little things going on in the background, but I’m really impressed at the simple musical pairing here. It’s a great balance that still manages to drive the track and keeps the listener engaged and interested. The duality of the music is also a perfect parallel to the lyrical contemplation on the fear and faith inside us all. Basically, when you give me a chocolate covered strawberry, I’m really not gonna wish it had sprinkles on it. That would kind of ruin everything.

Okay, I need to move on to the lyrics to get away from the food analogies. Lyrically, this song is the real deal. It has depth, it has sorrow, but most of all it has hope. In fact, the entire song is a journey of going from a place of fear to a place of hope. This song is so relatable, because throughout the human experience we all know fear and hope, and they both impact us and bring us to where we are. We are who we are because of our faith and our fear. You will experience both. This song is about going to where you want to be and facing the right direction. When two opposites coexist inside of you, you can turn your back on hope or you can turn your back on fear. It’s kind of up to you to find your own way home. When you decide to choose hope, there is always the possibility that your heart will break, but if you choose fear you will not find the peace, joy, and love that your heart is longing for.

During this contemplative monologue about the internal journey to find who you are and what you will choose to believe in, the syntactic structure maintains itself impressively. Bottom line: if you have not been listening to this song, then you have “been looking in the wrong place”.

Lyrics:
Fear
You’re just a name that I have learned
Another way for me to turn
And you brought me here
And it took years for me to find
That you were only in my mind

I’ve been looking in the wrong place
Couldn’t see what I’ve always known
I was facing the wrong way
I missed it all, I missed it all
I don’t care what they all say
Let me find my own way home
I don’t care if my heart breaks
All I want is love

Hope
You’re just a name that I hold close
There when I needed you the most
And you brought me here
Where I can learn to love myself
Without the love of someone else

I’ve been looking in the wrong place
Couldn’t see what I’ve always known
I was facing the wrong way
I missed it all, I missed it all
I don’t care what they all say
Let me find my own way home
I don’t care if my heart breaks
All I want is love
All I want is love
All I want is love

I don’t care what they all say
I don’t care if my heart breaks
I don’t care what they all say (All I want is love)
I don’t care if my heart breaks
I don’t care if my heart breaks

I’ve been looking in the wrong place
Couldn’t see what I’ve always known
I was facing the wrong way
I missed it all, I missed it all
I don’t care what they all say
Let me find my own way home
I don’t care if my heart breaks
All I want is love

I don’t care what they all say (All I want is love)
I don’t care if my heart breaks (All I want is love)
I don’t care what they all say (All I want is love)
I don’t care if my heart breaks (All I want is love)
