Best thing About this Album: The brilliant technicality of the lyrics
One thing I wish was different: Heartbreaker is a solidly catchy song, but it felt like there was a wide chasm between it and the level of substantiality of the other songs on the album. I also have serious issues with Daft Pretty Boys, but who doesn’t. ;D
Website: Bad Suns
Favorites: Disappear Here, Off She Goes, Patience, Defeated, Outskirts of Paradise
Parental Guidance: Disappear Here says “You found the sky through the moonroof, topless” leaving ambiguous whether the car or the girl was topless. Heartbreaker mentions drinking champagne & liquor. Even in My Dreams, I Can’t Win says “My bed […] I found your love here, naive and sincere.” Swimming in the Moonlight says “undress until there’s nothing left” and “Thank God”. Daft Pretty Boys is the song that earned the album it’s “explicit” status with a severe swear word near the end of the song. Maybe We’re Meant to Be Alone says “sometimes I fantasize about faking my own death just to see how it would make you feel,” in the bridge.

This album is packed with almost incomprehensible genius packaged in beautifully artful acoustics. While I most certainly loved some songs much more than others personally, they are almost all objective masterpieces. To be perfectly honest, both “Off She Goes” and “Outskirts of Paradise” stopped me in my proverbial tracks, and I’ve not been down the same path since. I took the road they traveled by — and that has made all the difference.
Okay, I’ll stop being vaguely literary and get down to some lyrical track sampling. Here are some of my favorite lines from each track to give you a better sense of the complete album!
“I’m right. I’m wrong. I’m everything but sure.” — Disappear Here
“Separation brings us awfully close.” — Heartbreaker
“Where do you go when the light leaves your eyes?” — Off She Goes
“There’s no good in lies you want to believe.” — Love Like Revenge
“I feel as though I’ve lost touch with the person who I once was as a child.” — Even in My Dreams, I Can’t Win
“Wasted dreams, that’s worse than death.” — Patience
“I couldn’t love you more if I tried.” — Swimming in the Moonlight
“Who can I be, besides me?” — Defeated
“Girl, you waste your time on daft pretty boys with all the time in the world for chasing pretty girls.” — Daft Pretty Boys
“Your violet disposition. My unsound intuition.” — Violet
“When you’re torn in two, who can you trust?” — Maybe We’re Meant to Be Alone
“The prison in my mind is simply that: a prison I’ve designed.” — How Am I Not Myself
“The tranquil glow of a song I know, it guides me.” — Outskirts of Paradise
That’s it. If you loved these songs as much as I did, please consider supporting Bad Suns by purchasing the album from their website or on your favorite digital music store (iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon, etc.)
