Something To Tell You by HAIM

Who Should Buy This: Pop music fans, those who love 70’s pop/rock, people who enjoy rhythm that drives music, and those who don’t mind songs about heartbreak.
Album: Something To Tell You
Artist: HAIM
Genre: alternative, pop, rock
Music Rating: 9/10
Lyrics Rating: 6/10
Sounds Like: Churches, MS MR, Phangs
Best thing About this Album: Rhythm is 🔥 Guitars are 🙌🏼 Harmonies are 😍
One thing I wish was different: Aside from my obvious personal bias against swearing, this album rides the line of veering just a bit too far into “mindless pop”. I personally would’ve liked a stronger alternative vibe (circa Days Are Gone), but that being said, I really enjoyed the broadening of sound here. It was a successful experimentation for sure!
Website: HAIM

Tracks: 11
Favorites: Want You Back, Nothing’s Wrong, Found It In Silence, Night So Long
Parental Guidance: Ready talks about “one-night stands” and has a swear word in the chorus. Something To Tell You has a swear word in the first verse. Kept Me Crying says “I was your lover. I was your friend. Now I’m only just someone you call when it’s late enough to forget.”

Going into this album, I knew that HAIM was going to deliver some strong rhythms, but I think what surprised me the most about this album was the larger, stadium feel that most of these songs have. This album has some awesome 70’s rock inspired nods, and blends acoustic and electronic musical elements fantastically! Everything is works really well together, but I feel like the guitar really steals the show for me on this album. Well —  that and the magical rapport of these girls’ vocals when they blend!

Here are some of my favorite lines from each track to give you a better lyrical sample of the whole album. Take a look and then take a listen!

“I had a fear of forgiveness.” — Want You Back

“How could you tell me nothing’s wrong?” — Nothing’s Wrong

“Don’t think about it all too much. My love is gonna be enough.” — Little of Your Love

“The wrong time, the wrong place. I wasn’t ready for you.” — Ready For You

“I know if I tell you that everything’s alright, we can stay in this moment and never say goodbye.” — Something To Tell You

“Was my love too much for you to take?” — You Never Knew

“Know I shouldn’t, but I can’t give up.” — Kept Me Crying

“I found it in silence. I finally see.” — Found It In Silence

“If you were gonna face it, you would’ve by now.” — Walking Away

“I know you heard me through an open window.” — Right Now

“In loneliness, my only friend. In loneliness, my only fear.” — Night So Long

That’s it. If you loved these songs as much as I did, please consider supporting HAIM by purchasing the album from their website or on your favorite digital music store (iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon, etc.)

And holler at me in the comments! I’d love to talk to you all about this album.
