Best thing About this Album: The acoustic guitars and general sunshine-y vibe.
One thing I wish was different: The ocean sounds were a bit gimmicky for me. Give me some acoustic guitar, not some artificial ambience to help me “relax” or “set the mood”. I’ve lived in CA. I’ve been to the ocean. I don’t need fabricated sounds to set the scene. I get it. You’re in Malibu. Congratulations. Remember how you were supposed to be playing music? A little subtlety goes a long way. Just saying.

Despite it’s October release date, this album is all about the California summer vibes, through and through (though it’s also a bit island-y in general). This album is like a shot of sunshine to the soul with a laid-back approach to life and love. This album stays classically Colbie, making brilliant use of her extensive lower range in wonderfully layered harmonies. There is also a beautifully seamless fusion of acoustic and electric guitars that will make you sway in the imaginary ocean breeze. In case all of that has somehow left you wanting, there is some ukulele to light up your ears and make your face go: 😍! Here are some of my favorite lines from each track to give you an idea of what this album is like lyrically.

“The song that is on is the sound of my soul.” — Gypsy Heart

“If all I had was a dollar and your bright smile, I’d have a dollar more than I would need to get by.” — Goldmine

“We’ll be free on island time.” — Cruisin’

“We don’t know what the tide brings. That could be a good thing.” — Like Tomorrow Never Comes

“Only you can keep me falling like a summer rain.” — Only You

“We’re right where we belong. We got a good thing going on.” — Good Thing

“Life was slowly passing by ’til I had you here by my side.” — Runnin

“If you stay, maybe you could be the one that never got away.” — Never Got Away

“I want to touch the spark, but I’m safer in the dark” — Don’t Wanna Love You

“I want to fall in love again, but this time with no regrets. ” — In Love Again

“If you want to go, stay. If you want to run, wait.” — Now
