Best thing About this Track: It’s really hard to pick this track apart and say that any one element makes it great, because the best thing about this song is the way that everything works together so brilliantly. I suppose the greatest thing is the combination of super catchy music with an amazing rhyme scheme.
One thing I wish was different: I wish the harmonies on the chorus were a tiny bit louder, because they are sick.

I’m kinda stoked to hear this album. It will be released March 11th, so mark your calendars. Until then, there are a few singles out for us to listen to, my favorite being “Without You”.

So, I very love this song. It is one of those very rare gems that is both frivolous and pensive at the same time. Usually a song is either super catchy with analytical songwriting as an afterthought, or really well-written but not quite as instantly fun to mindlessly listen to.

Don’t get me wrong; the tone of the lyrics are supermuch carefree, light, and not at all serious. But, within that tone and purpose, they are extremely well-written and have a really strong structural foundation. That usually does not get any consideration with this style of song, so that is surprising and wonderfully refreshing to hear.

This track has so many moving parts that work together so perfectly! In addition to just being a great song, it was truly masterfully produced and blended. It feels like a mixture between an audible painting with brightly colored tones flying across the canvas in colorful chaos and an acoustic Rube Goldberg machine designed with each gear turning and fitting together so perfectly to accomplish the task of being awesome.

Immediately we get a sense of what we’re dealing with: greatness in the form of synthesizers, some amazing drums, electric guitar, some sick background vocals, and of course the bass line.

The first verse starts and the music backs off, letting the piano take over for a minute. And that piano is a star! Accompanied by drums and bass, it really holds its own with some fun rhythms that work in perfect opposition to the bass line and make you excited despite the deceivingly calm groove going on.

Here comes the drum fill and Will absolutely takes off vocally going into the chorus. Cymbal smash! Enter guitars! The bass and drums pick it up, becoming an even more visible presence. The drums are going crazy and I am loving the background vocals.

Moving on to the second verse, the piano is the star again, but the drums  are not backing off. I’m pretty sure I hear a saxophone, and I’m confused and impressed as to how that fits so well in this part of the song. We enter the second chorus, and I realize the saxophone is killing it here as well.

Bridge! It’s musically similar to the chorus, but I am loving the gospel choir thing going on. Immediately after the bridge, we slow it down to some bare vocals over sustained electric piano chords. Suddenly the saxophone pops up and has decided that it is really not going to give you an opportunity to ignore its fabulousness anymore with a charging lead into the last chorus.

From here on out, it’s all excitement and hype, and Will is really not holding back on the vocals. Everybody is really bringing it up until the last line when the drums punctuate the song and we bring it back in to just vocals and piano. Talking to the song, I’m just left feeling like “I don’t want to live this life without you.”

Lyrics:
Whoah, I’m never going without you, no
I’m never going without you

I try to fight it, but every time it’s like a brand new car or a drug
And you know you’re gonna try it
When they tell you that you can’t do that, but you will
And you know you’re gonna like it
When you light a flame, it glows
If you set a bomb, it’s gonna blow
When I see your pretty little face that I want to know, then

I don’t want to fall asleep without you
I don’t want to take one breath without you
I don’t even know one thing about you
But give me everything about you
It’s only been a moment, it’s true
But I could never live this life without you
Whoah, I’m never going without you, no
I’m never going without you

You give me one look, and I’ll be on one knee with a plastic ring
out, and I don’t even know you
Yeah, we could run this back one million times, but it’s no use
I’ll keep falling too fast
Why do I only want what I don’t have? Like,

I don’t want to fall asleep without you
I don’t want to take one breath without you
I don’t even know one thing about you
But give me everything about you
It’s only been a moment, it’s true
But I could never live this life without you
I could never live without you

Doesn’t matter where I go
Doesn’t matter if I run
We were always gonna get too close
We were always gonna fall in love

Doesn’t matter where I go
Doesn’t matter if I run
We were always gonna get too close
We were always gonna fall in love

I don’t want to fall asleep without you
I don’t want to take one breath without you
Oh, and I don’t even know one thing about you
But give me everything about you

I know that I don’t want to fall asleep without you
Never without you
I don’t want to take one breath without you
Never without you
I don’t even know one thing about you
But give me everything about you
It’s only been a moment, it’s true (It’s only been a moment, it’s true)
But I could never live this life without you
I could never live without you

Doesn’t matter where I go
Doesn’t matter if I run (if I run)
We were always gonna get too close
We were always gonna fall in love

I don’t even know one thing about you
But give me everything about you
It’s only been a moment, it’s true
But I could never live this life without you
Never without you
I don’t want to live this life without you
